Ebook About From New York Times bestselling author Lexi Ryan comes a sexy new standalone romance about a woman who’d do anything to have a baby and the man who’d do anything to have her…For my 30th birthday, I’m giving myself the one thing I want most: a baby. Sure, this would be easier if I had a husband—or even a boyfriend—but I refuse to be thwarted by minor details. When I drunkenly confess my plans to my friends, they convince me to ask Jake Jackson for help. Jake, the best friend who’s been there for me through thick and thin. Jake, who also happens to be smart, funny, ridiculously good looking, and the winner of all the genetic lotteries. So when Jake takes me up on my request—with the stipulation that we get the job done the old-fashioned way—I’d be a fool to decline. The only problem? I don’t know if I can separate sex from all the things I feel for this amazing man. If I can’t keep my heart under lock and key, I risk losing the relationship I need the most.Jake has his own reasons for granting my baby wish. But when I discover his secrets, it could mean the end of us. I have to choose—run or stay and fight for love.Straight Up Love is book two in The Boys of Jackson Harbor series. All books in this series can be read as standalones, but you’ll enjoy reading them as a series!Book Straight Up Love (The Boys of Jackson Harbor Book 2) Review :
It's hard to express how I feel about this story. I can feel how much Jake loves Ava, but not vice verse. Why is that? And why did it take so dang long for them to consummate? That was insanely frustrating. Why after a certain point did Jake still need to "take it slow"? Seduction is one thing but after a certain amount of time, it's just time to get on with it. Don't think I like what Jake was doing either--using Ava's desire for a pregnancy as an excuse to get in her pants. If he couldn't win her over before that, it seems a little sleazy to stoop so low.I wish that this book had spent a little bit of time talking about the issue of infertility. The first book in this series addressed the issue of depression, not so much as to be preachy, but gave the book depth. Maybe something like that would have helped this story too. ***************************ETA: So now it's six months later and I am rereading this series in anticipation of book 6 being released in just a few weeks. I have just finished reading this story for the second time and it's still frustrating to me because there is so much indecision and uncertainty and back and forth. It took me well into the book to finally feel that Ava was in love with Jake, but I finally did. Also there are a lot of threads to pull in this story. Some end here and several others will weave their way through subsequent books. I would suggest that these books be read in order. As a group, they are well worth reading. The author takes some risks with different techniques and story types that make it interesting. I have to say I was looking forward to this book after reading the first one. I mean “Wrong Kind of Love” kind of blew my socks off. This book...not so much.I did NOT like Ava... at all. Seriously, she was annoying and so focused on herself. I was even disappointed in Jake. I wanted smack both of them upside the head. I almost put this one down to a DNF but I kept hoping some excitement would happen. All in all, I think the supporting characters kept this book going.Oh well, maybe the next one will be better. Still love Lexi Ryan’s books though.
